Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple

Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, located near Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, is one of the oldest and most revered temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple stands atop a small hill and is believed to have been constructed in the early 10th century. With its architectural resemblance to the temples of the Chera period, it reflects traditional Kerala style and features beautiful wooden carvings and stone inscriptions.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the form of a Swayambhu (self-manifested) lingam. The temple also houses shrines for Lord Ganapathi and Sage Maharshi, believed to have installed the main deity. The serene atmosphere and spiritual aura make it a significant pilgrimage center for devotees seeking blessings and inner peace. The annual temple festival, Thiruvutsavam, held in December–January, draws thousands of devotees.

Apart from its religious importance, the temple is also known for its proximity to the Kaviyoor Rock-Cut Cave Temple, a protected monument by the Archaeological Department.
